I honestly don't think it matters. Valentines is just a holiday based since traditional times on fertility and love. Yeah, it's pretty pointless at the moment and is mainly a time for big companies to sell loads of candy and jewelry, but it still holds some loving tradition not just for lovers, but for friends and family too. It's really no biggie. Leave it alone and let it be. You're not being forced to celebrate it.

I don't think that valenties should be boycotted. I don't think it's a holiday that people take very seriously but it is still fun to celebrate. The older trditions that had to do with valentines day may not be acceptable now but they did not know any better, they thought what they were doing was righ. all that matters is what valentines means to people today. It is a day to express how much you love the people arouind you, nout just a boyfriend or a girlfriend.

Although I can understand where the nay-sayers are coming from (especially if they're arguing that it should be abolished because of its religious one-sidedness) but there's no reason to do so considering the vast other (and more important) religious holidays. It is true that in the United States, there is a seperation of Church and State, and as such, the State has no right to either ban or promote any such holiday. In short, V-Day isn't going anywhere.

I think that people might try to boycott it because they might not be of their religion but still this is america and isnt it your choice to choose what you celebrate or not, besides its once a year.

I don't understand why anybody would want this holiday banned. So yes, Valentine's Day may have originally be a holiday where there was animal sacrifice and blood, but is it still a holiday of animal sacrifice and blood? No, it isn't. It is a holiday of exchanging cards and small gifts of affection. People need to stop looking in the past at what this holiday was, and look what it is now. We aren't sacrificing goats and dogs, we're celebrating love. I don't see why anybody would oppose that.

Valentines day is a cute holiday to celebrate with your loved one. But shouldn't you love your spouse everyday. Why should you have to show more love on one day then any other. you should love everyday. Its cute buying roses and candies and go out to dinner, but i think these things can be done any day no matter what day it is. I dont think that it should be boycotted, i just think that some people just take it a little to far with what they do. you should always appreciate your boyfriend or girlfriend.

Although not a particular fan of how over the past decade holidays such as Valentine's day have become extremely materialistic, I think that the reasons Valentine’s day was primarily founded upon are honorable and should still exist in modern society as a reminder of showing affection towards a loved one should be celebrated.

i think valentines day should not be boycotted. its just a holiday for fun. although i guess there could be issues with it being a catholic or christian holiday other than that i dont see a problem with it. other things that could possibly bother people are how they sacrified goats and dogs to be purified. i still dont think those are enough reasons to boycott the holiday. even if you dont have a boyfriend or girlfriend to share it with its still fun to be with your family and friends.

I think that people should do what they want to do. If they want to celebrate it then celebrate it, if not then dont. No one is being forced to do anything so i think that it should just be left alone.

i think that valintines day should not be boycoted it should be a holiday because everyone takes part in it its not like its just spacificaly for one group of people its for everyone.

I do not believe that Valentine's day should be boycotted. Even though we do not know the origins of the holiday, it is irrelevant. Because now Valentine's day is a tradition, where people show each other how much they care for one-another. Why some people would want to boycott something that doesn't really affect them if they do not want it to really doesnt make sense.

I think valentines day should be a holiday. It's not a big deal and if people don't want to take part in it then they really don't have to, but for people in realationships its a nice way to show people you care. It isnt a holiday about religion it's just about letting people know you appreciate them.=]

Ofcoarse valintines day should be a holiday. If you dont like it, just dont celebrate it. This holiday is to show people you really care about them. Its a tradition even tho it doesnt mean as much as most holidays it still means something and is an excuse to tell people how you feel .

People are crazy. Boycotting Valentines day will not proove anything. Its just like religons...christians dont celabrate jewish holidays but they're still there...they just ignore them. Valentines day is a simple fun loving holiday that everyone can be apart of. If you dont like it....ignore it.

i dont think it should be boycotted. It is just a holiday to where people who are in love can celebrate it on a designated day. You are not forced to celebrate it. Its history of it comes from Saint Valentine but it isn't really a religious holiday. It is more of a fun holiday.

I don't think the people who want to boycott it really have any reason to do so. Valentine's Day is a holiday created as a result of many ancient traditions, beliefs. It was made in order to honor St. Valentine, someone who demonstrated a lot of love. Just like any other holiday like this one, not everyone has to recognize it. Some people don't celebrate Christmas, but for those who do, it is an important holiday. This holiday may not be celebrating one specific event, but if it is a part of our history, it should be celebrated.

...Wha??? I don't get it. This article doesn't say ANYTHING about boycotting Valentines Day, nor does it give any reasons to do so! Personally, I like Valentines Day! Who cares about St. Valentine or dead goats and dogs! All we do on Valentines Day now is exchange presents, candy, and cards! It's one of those times where you're supposed to have fun and be kind to others! Who CARES how it used to be celebrated! I sure don't! Yay for Valentines Day!

I personally think that we should in fact celebreate Valentine's day and that it should not be boycotted. I honestly do not understand why anyone would not want this holiday to be celebrated, and feel that it is foolish for those who oppose it. In a country where we celebrate Christopher Colombus, a man who slaughtered entire Indian tribes, I feel that it is justified that we celebrate a man who died for his love as well. There is a good reason why Valentine's day dates back all the way to the Middle Ages, and I do not feel that it is necessary or justified in any way to break this tradition that is celebrated by millions of Americans. This is the only holiday dedicated specifically to the person that you love, and I feel that it should stay that way until the end of time.

1 billion Valentines day cards are sent each year... This is huge industry from the bussiness standpoint. I also belive that the story of Valentines day is nice. The man was in jail and sent a letter to his love. Anotehr story talks about a priest who married young lovers so that the men did nothave to go to war....he was later put to death. This shows love and affection just liek tha day is intended to do. In theory, i belive that it is a nice day and even if you do not have a lover,,,,, Tell a friend that they mean alot to you. There is nothing wrong with a holliday involvign love. Soem belive the reasons arent appropirate to have a holliday. It is much liek Columbus day. No matter how it started , it has become somthing ive and we can all use a littlelove in our lives.

I think Valentines day is a very nice and important holiday. Its nice to have another person that you love, spend this great holiday with you. I really enjoy this terrific holiday and i know my girlfriend does too. I dont think there are enough reasons to boycott this holiday because for all the people the holiday doesnt bring joy too there are a bunch more people that do. i feel strongly about this holiday and i dont want it to be boycotted.

Eric B. said...

Those who want to celebrate Valentine's Day should, and those who are against the holiday, and do not like it should not celebrate. Enough said.

I never knew that there was not a definite story behind Valentines day. It is interesting the hear all of the theories and stories of what people think the story is. It was also interesting to find out how many cards are bought during Valentines day, about a billion, making Valentines day the second largest time cards are bought; Christmas being first. I don't have a problem with Valentines day like some people do. It's not a big deal if you dont have anyone to give anything to so people shouldn't stress over it.

I dont see a problem with valentines day. Though some people may be offended that it started as a primarily christian holiday, it has evolved just like haloween, People need to grow up and stop being offended by every little tiny thing. Come on people.

alright, so the story behind valentines day isnt that meaningfull but its a tradition and its been celebrated for ages so to take it away would be completely pointless. people like valentines day, they go out and do cute stuff for theyre loved ones and enjoy it. if you dont think its worthy of being a holiday it shouldnt have been created. just leave it alone if you dont like it, deal with it.
