i agree that when theres group of kids hanging out that it can intimidate other civilians. i think the security cameras are a big waste of money although they can help stop the crimes. i dont think the other people should have a problem with it even if it is watching them read or eat lunch or whatever. if they aren't doing anything wrong then there's no problem for them. i think the town should put up a bowling ally and a mall again.. if they meet the needs of the teenagers then they don't have to loiter around their shops. the money they use for cameras could be going to that instead.

I think that this is a very good plan that will help keep the community safe. With these cameras running i belive that less people will do things they would do if there was no cameras.

I think public cameras is a really good idea. It'll catch some crime happening around more instead of letting it go because you have no idea who did it or what happened necessarily. As long as the cameras stay far away from the bathrooms...
and lol@graffite pictures looking good.

I completely agree with this plan to install video surviellance along a downtown street. It is nessisary becuase it will stop vandalism and graffiti. I also think it is nonsense that some people think it's "encroching on their privacy". It is just an attempt to stop kids from vandalizing the town.

I feel this is a great idea to install new security cameras and surveillance equipment to the areas of Lindenhurst and Huntington Station. In doing so, this will hopefully help the crime rate and vandalism in those respected areas and this could lead to a better living enviornment for all living there. Lindenhurst may need something like this to help kickstart its community back into gear which could possibly lead to the building of a mall or movie theatre which it currently lacks that could help get its local economy back on track. This also trickles all the way down to the schools in those areas and could promote a better larning enviornment, more confidence, and a more promising future for those students.

i agree with the plan. The citizens fear their privacy is being disrupted but they are in public. They should not be doing anything private and personal in public anyway. The town should do whatever they can to stop crime and ensure the saftey of businesses.

isnt that invading in our rights or watever. i think its stupid they might as well just put it up in our own backyards.

... That's good! Why should they let vandalism and graffitiing go unpunished? But... What about the teens who go there just to hang out? The ones who DON'T cause trouble? My stepsister's like that, so I know. She's 'punk,' but that's just what she likes to wear and how she expresses herself. She doesn't do bad things. But, for the ones that do cause trouble... Yay! Let 'em suffer! They shouldn't mess up peoples' businesses!

This is a good plan and there is no question about it. It is a good way to protect public property. The only people that would have an issue with this is someone who was causing trouble and if that is the case then they need to be punsihed.

They should take other strides to improve the communtity though. Obviously there is nothing to do there and that is why kids are turning to destruction. If they provided shopping malls and movie theatres then the kids would have someone to go rather than cause trouble.

I don't think that there should be cameras in the public to have to try to get kids not to do bad things. I think a bigger issue is dealing with the kids before they want to graffitti a wall, we must teach them higher morals than we are already because appearantly it's not working.

I think that this is a great idea. Regardless of if these teens have no other spots to hang out at, it doesn't give them the right to loiter near shops and break windows. There are other places that teens can hang out as, such as public parks. They could also could join after school activities, which the Lindenhurst school district should have, and if not, they should start to make them in response to these events.

Nira, then there's no trouble with the cameras being there if she doesn't cause anything bad.

I think that the cameras are a good idea in order to keep Lindenhurst a safe place. I think that the cameras primary purpose should be to stop teens from vandalizing and crime. I dont think that they should be used to keep kids from loitering since they have no where to go. If they want to get teens to stop loitering in the area, then they should mainly focus on putting the camera money towards creating places for teenagers to go, like repairing the old movie heater and mall. The cameras still seem like a good idea though

I don't think cameras should be installed. I think this is indeed invading privacy and it is a first step towards turning the country into a police state. If the village will have to hire more staff to watch the cameras anyway, then why not just hire staff to be security guards and stop the vandalism that way.
The guards will stop the crime before it happens whereas the camera will just tape it and allow it.

I think that installing security cameras around stores and shopping malls is a good idea. it is a easier to describe the person who broke in or vandalized the property. If someone sees a camera around the store, i personally think that they wouldnt do anything because it is easier for them to get caught. it will keep your neighborhood safe and your surronding area.

"We just want to hang out," said Jimmy Wilson, 16, a high school sophomore. "Sometimes it gets a little out of hand." As a high school student i understand that there can be nowhere to hang out at times. I also undertand as an employee at a store where kids can hang out that sometimes somthign needs to be enforced. If you want to hang out hang out. Woudl you want somethign to happen to your mothers shop? If you do nothign wrogn you have nothign to hide and you should be smart enough to know that if you do want to do somthign illegal that you should do it away from cameras. This relates to the patriot act. When people found out that he government could listen to phone calls some got very angry. These are some of the people who will be criticizing bush and sayign not enough is being done when somthign bad happens. I am a firm beliver that if you speed and get away with it that you should get away with it. Puttign cameras to detect speeding and blowing red lights should be outlawed because if you get away with it you should be able to live with what you have done and risk it until a police officer catches you. Im sure the police would not like cameras in thier cars while they are on patrol, they should be the ones to catch us not cameras. If the crime affects someones well being, a murder and a horrendous crime on the road then it is a total benefit. It would make neighborhoods safer and encourage children to have clean fun. Vandalisim and crimes such as harrasment or rape should be aided with the use of camera. a town is a place where familys live and grow and intend to be safe.

I think that the cameras are a good idea, but only in certain areas. They should only be placed where crimes frequently occur. While it does seem to be an invasion of privacy, these are public places and people should not being doing anything that they would not want on camera. I agree that they should only be used if a crime is reported, not for 24 hour survaillence. I think the town should also try and do things to prevent these crimes from happening rather than just punishing people when they do occur.

Caitlin said...

sorry about the typo...it should be "people should not be doing anything.."

I believe the town is wasting so much money by installing these carmeas. It invades privacy and it is un-needed. They should put the money into a small movie theater so this loitering won't happen. The kids need a place to hang out but the kids should be more respectful.

RobynSuchy said...

I think that the security cameras will be helpful in deterring the vandalism and petty crime that occurs in the town, but I think that the problems that are occurring need some kind of resolution. While the cameras may deter people from committing crime, it will not ultimately stop it. The town needs to take some money and fund a place where teens can get together and have fun such as opening a movie theater or mall.

I think these cameras are a very good idea, because I am worried about my best friend J.Norman. He goes to these bad bad places almost every day after school, and hangs out with the very bad kids. He does all sorts of really unsafe drugs like heroin. He comes home most days high, and it makes me very worried. And I know that with the help of these cameras it can not only help my best friend, J.Norman, but other troubled teenagers like himself. I only wish these cameras were here sooner.
